CO2 Machine Rotary Attachment Configuration: 4-Wheel Rim Drive Rotary and Three Jaw Chuck rotary Models

 

The Rotary Attachment Configuration: (4-Wheel Rim Drive Rotary and Three Jaw Chuck rotary) receive a signal from the Y axis, generating the rotation of the objects that are located on them. In the 4-Wheel Rim Drive Rotary the objects are superimposed on the wheels that generate the rotational movement, in the case of the Three Jaw Chuck rotary, the objects are clamped between a plate around its circumference and a mobile head that supports the other end.

Moving the worktable:

Step 1: 

Shift the Worktable on the Z axis downward. To do this,  first press the “Z / U” button and then press the “è” button (to the right) to move the worktable to the necessary height to prevent the coupling hitting the laser head.

 

Attention: Carefully move the laser head over the Rotary Attachment and make sure they do not hit each other at any time.

 

Step 2: 

Place the object to be engraved on the Rotaty Attachment, taking into account its dimensions.






Step 3:

 Use a level to make sure the object is level.




Step 4: 

Calibrate the height of the laser head, using the focal guide (you will find this acrylic piece in the tool kit) as follows:





ROTARY ATTACHMENT CONNECTION

 

Step 1: 

Locate the Y-axis signal connector, located in the first upper right corner of the internal area of the machine, and then disconnect the cable corresponding to the Y-axis as shown in the following images:



    


Step 2:

Connect the 3 PIN signal cable




  

STARTING THE MACHINE

 

When you turn on the machine, the laser head will move to the point of origin. Because the Y-axis is disconnected, the head will only be able to move in the X-axis. The Y-axis setup must be done manually by making contact with the switch using a metal part (you can use one of the flathead screwdrivers from the kit of tools), as shown in the following images






RDWORKS SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION

 

Step 1: 

Open the program and click on the "User" tab, located in the control panel. Select the "Processing" box and click "Read." This will load the system settings from the machine into the software.






Attention: Please take note of the original parameters before changing them, the parameters in the images above may vary slightly depending on the model of the machine. Reset these parameters when you have finished using the Rotary Attachment. Also save the parameters clic  “Save” Button.




Step 2:


Set the parameters shown in the following images. Once you have entered the data, select the “Write” option.



Setting the “Circle Pulse” parameter.

 

“Circle Pulse” is the parameter that determines how many pulses are required for the rotary attachment to complete one revolution for the sample or test. This parameter is calculated through an engraving test using the test parameters.

Example: Engraving a 10mm line on a 50mm diameter bottle.

 

Step 1: 

Place the "User" tab in the "Other" box, then click the "Enable roating" box and select the "Yes" option. Then enter “10000” in the field labeled “Circle Pulse” and “50” in the “Diameter” field and again, select the “Write” box, as shown below:




Note: you can download from this link the file “Rotary Attachment parameters” configuration, previously saved the originals of the machine, and once you finish, reload the original saved parameters.

Step 2: 

Draw on a 10mm long line in the RDworks software





Step 3: 

Set the following engraving parameters: Speed: 15, Max. Power: 15% and Min. Power: 15%.

Step 4: 

Download the file to the machine.

Step 5: 

Stick paper tape on the area of the object to be engraved.

Step 6: 

Place the bottle in the Rotary Attachment under the laser head. Make sure that the object is well positioned on the X axis and that the laser head is adjusted over the area to be engraved




Attention: The rotary attachment must rotate in the correct direction. Press the direction buttons on the Y axis (↑ ↓), if the direction of the motor is opposite to the direction of the pressed button, it means that it is located in the correct position. Otherwise, rotate the rotary attachment 180 °.

 

Step 6: 

Adjust the Focal Lenght and start the engraving process.




Step 7: Measure the length of the engraved line. If the measurement is different than 10mm, then the "Circle Pulse" parameter is incorrect.

 

Note: In the case of this document, a measurement of 18mm will be used



In case the parameter is incorrect, follow these steps:

 

Step 1.

Perform the parameter calculation as follows: Data:

• Default constant: 10000.

• Length of the designed line: 10mm.

• Length of the line engraved on the object: 18mm Note: The value 18mm is the error that will be taken into account to correct the parameter.

So: Circle pulse = (10000 * 10mm) / 18mm = 5556. Therefore, the new parameter must be 5556.

 

Step 2. 

Go to the “User” tab and in the “Other” box, select the “Read” box to proceed to change the “Circle pulse” parameter. Enter the new value in the "Circle pulse" field.”.



Note: Remember that you must select the "Write" box for the software to save the settings you just entered.

 

Step 3.

 Carry out the engraving again with the updated parameter settings. After successfully completing the process, you should get the following results




In the verification of the dimension of the test line, it is observed that it measures 10mm, a length that verifies that the measurements of the design and those of the engraving are the same. Therefore, the Rotary Attachment is calibrated and ready for engraving.

 

Note. If the result obtained does not agree with the input parameters in the design, perform the previous procedure again, with the new measurement obtained, until the exact dimension of the design made in the software is obtained.

Now the rotator is ready to engrave your desired design.

 

Attention: remember to uncheck the “Enable rotate engrave” box after you have finished using the rotary coupling and restore the original parameters in the “User” tab, “Other” and “Processing” boxes.





Note:

Finally, disconnect the Rotary Attachment cable and connect the Y axis again, and restart the machine
